Rawls discussion - Justice in America. Reviewed two scenarios that put Rawls ideas into action. Facts are that roughly 50% of the nation's wage earners don't pay taxes. Rawls most compelling point for taxation is that our gifts are morally arbitrary. There is no difference between a severely handicapped indiviudal and a high IQ engineer. It all comes down to luck and the social lottery.
We delved into the 4 million word gap - another consequence of poverty and Vonnegut's, Harrison Bergeron. We ended class speaking about fairness and the CT transgender track and field controversy.
Wednesday, September 4th - Completed the transgender rights debate and reviewed the requirements for understanding the basics of John Rawls.
